Quebec’s new paramedic protocols (PICPSP 2023) adopt the term “Restriction des mouvements spinaux” (RMS) in French, signaling a shift from traditional immobilization. The protocols emphasize:

  • Primary Assessment: Identifying unstable patients requiring immediate care.
  • Efficient Scene Management: Minimizing on-scene time, especially for unstable patients.
  • Selective RMS: Only patients with significant mechanisms or clinical findings undergo RMS, reducing unnecessary interventions.
